The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment Consumer Services advised that, to date they have had reports of 16,000 heaters removed from properties – a significant result.

Despite efforts, fire events related to Serene bathroom heaters are continuing to be experienced with the most recent in January 2025. Based on FENZ reports, this brings the number of fire events caused by Serene S2068 heaters to 19.

With winter fast approaching, there is a concern that the remaining 28,000 unaccounted heaters represent more potential fire events, with resulting damage to property and risk to human lives. The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment is about to embark on a digital marketing campaign designed to raise awareness of the recall commencing on 1 April 2025 and continuing for the next few months.

The goal of the campaign is to motivate homeowners to take action to identify if they have a recalled heater and make it safe urgently.
